The Week Ahead – August 17-23

A little late, but let’s see what’s happening the rest of the week.

Santee Summer Concerts: Thursday, August 20, the final concert in the series features The Corvettesand their Doo Wop and Motown sounds.  The fun starts at 6:30 pm and goes until 8:00 pm.

Sunrise Santee: Tuesday, August 18, at the Santee Hometown Buffet (275 Town Center Parkway, across the parking lot from The Home Depot), beginning at 7:25 am.  This is a monthly mixer sponsored by the Santee Chamber of Commerce.  This month’s speaker is Amy Keefe of Cox Business.  Cost is $5 for breakfast and $1 for raffle and 50/50 drawing.

After-5 Mixer: Thursday, August 20, the monthly After-5 business mixer will be held at Simply Spa(278 Town Center Parkway, Suite 101, next to Ross).  The mixer runs from 5:30-7:30 pm and is a good opportunity to meet business owners from around Santee.  Cost is $5 for members and $10 for guests, plus whatever you want to spend for raffle tickets.

Frubble Events: This week Frubble will host Karaoke Evening on Thursday, August 20, and Open Mic Night on Friday, August 21.  Both events start at 8:00 pm.  Frubble is located at 9628 Carlton Hills Blvd., in the Pathways Community Church Center.

Mission Trails Regional Park: This week the Park will hold another week-long class called “Creepy Crawlies” for kids 6-10.  The class runs from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, but it may be too late to sign up.  Also this week there are Guided Nature Walks on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday starting at 9:30 am.

Movies by the Lake: The final movie in the series, Bolt, plays at Santee Lakes on Friday, August 21.  You can start setting up around 6:00 pm, games for kids start around 7:00 pm, and the movie starts around 8:00 pm.  Cost is $8 per car for parking, so load up the minivan or SUV and head on out.

The Week Ahead – August 10-16

Santee Summer Concert Series: This week the Bayou Brothers blow into Santee Trolley Square on Thursday, August 13, with the next-to-last concert in the series.  The music kicks off at 6:30 pm and lasts until 8:00 pm.

Santee Lakes: Night Fishing returns on Thursday, August 13, as Santee Lakes opens up for fishing from 5:00-11:30 pm.  Remember, you need a lantern and a night permit to fish – $8 for adults, $6 for juniors, and $3 for a second pole stamp.

Mission Trails Regional Park: This is another busy week at Mission Trails.  There will be several Guided Nature Walks, as always, but Friday you will have the choice between Stars at Mission Trails, hosted by the San Diego Astronomy Association (7:00-10:00 pm) and an Owl Prowl led by bird expert Mike Wellik (7:30-10:00 pm).  Meet at the Kumeyaay Campground for the Stars and at the Visitor Center for the Owls.  Then on Saturday there will be a Twilight Walk starting at the Kumeyaay Campground entrance.  Since this is a popular activity, be sure to call ahead to reserve a spot (619-668-2748).

The Week Ahead – July 27-August 2

I seem to be getting pretty good at keeping this up.  Let’s look at the coming week in Santee.

Santee Summer Concert Series: Thursday, July 30, The Screamin’ Primas bring their tribute to Louis Prima to the Trolley Center amphitheater from 6:30-8:00 pm.

Mission Trails Regional Park: This is a busy week, with Guided Nature Walks, an Explorers Adventure Camp for kids 6-10, and a Twilight Walk on Saturday.

Santee Lakes: Thursday, July 30, Night Fishing returns to the Lakes.

There is also a burger challenge on Wednesday night, but I don’t have details yet – I will put them up when I have some, along with any other events.

The Week Ahead – July 20-26

Santee Chamber of Commerce Sunrise Santee: Tuesday morning, July 21, starting at 7:25 am at the Hometown Buffet in the Santee Town Center, 265 Town Center Parkway. Cost: $6.

Santee Summer Concert Series: Thursday night, July 23, the Johnny Cash tribute band Cash’d Out plays the music of the Man in Black from 6:30-8:00 pm in the Trolley Center amphitheater.

Santee Lakes “Movies by the Lake”: Friday night “Kung Fu Panda” will be showing.  You can begin setting up around 6:00 pm, games for kids start about 7:00 pm, and the movie shows at 8:00 pm.  Cost is $8 per car.  Also continuing at the Lakes is the Cash for Cats contest – tagged catfish are eligible for big prizes.

Santee Lions Club Pancake Breakfast: Saturday morning, July 25, the Lions have their monthly Pancake Breakfast to raise money for their Sensory Garden at Santee Lakes.  The breakfast takes place at the Santee Lakes Clubhouse from 8:00-11:00 am.

Mission Trails Regional Park: Guided bird walks on Wednesday, July 22, and Saturday, July 25, and Birding Basics on Saturday.

This Just In:

Frubble No Cover Weekend: Frubble will be hosting two bands this week – Yttrium on Friday, July 25, from 6:00-7:00 pm and Rock-It Science on Saturday, July 25 starting at 8:00 pm.  Both shows are free (my favorite word).

The Week Ahead – July 13-19

No promises, but I am going to try to start giving a heads up on activities and events for the week.  Of course, this will be a lot easier if you let me know of any important dates coming up – so feel free to email me (recoveringteacher@gmail.com) or leave a message if you have something you think others should know about things in and around Santee.

Santee Chamber of Commerce After-5 Mixer: Thursday, July 16, from 5:30-7:00 pm at PakMail, 9890 N Magnolia Ave.

Santee Summer Concert Series: Thursday, July 16, from 6:30-8:00 pm at Santee Trolley Square – featuring Spectrum.

Simply Spa Santana Special: This week Simply Spa is giving members of the Santana Class of ’89 a $20 discount on either a 50-minute spa treatment or a 50-minute facial treatment in preparation for their upcoming Class Reunion.  For more info you can check out their Facebook page or call them at 619-258-5810.

Frubble Presents: Saturday night, July 18, the teen band The Mayors of Sexy Town will play at Frubble from 7:00 pm to whenever.  Frubble is located in the Pathways center at Mast Blvd. and Carlton Hills Blvd.

Night Fishing at Santee Lakes: Thursday night (a big night, apparently), July 16, Santee Lakes #1, 2, 3, and 4 will be open for night fishing from 5:00-11:30 pm.  You don’t need a state fishing license, but you do need a Night Fishing Permit – $8 for Adults, $6 for Juniors, $3 for a second pole – and a lantern.  No radios – you don’t want to scare the fish!

Mission Trails Regional Park: Multiple events all week, culminating in their Summer Twilight Walk starting at 7:15 pm on Saturday, July 18.  Call ahead for reservations if you want to attend.
