East County Turns “13”

No, the East County isn’t literally turning 13.  Rather, the Young Actors’ Theatre in Spring Valley is putting on the Broadway musical “13” – a rocking look at reaching that awkward age.  A group of dedicated kids has spent this past week singing, dancing, and rehearsing several hours each day to be ready for shows this weekend and next.

Theater everywhere has taken a hit during this economic downturn, and community theaters especially so.  YAT is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving kids the opportunity to experience the arts through theatre.  They put on several regular shows each year as well as giving classes in all aspects of theater, and they deserve to be supported.  Since tickets are only $5 and there are 6 performances over the two weekends, there really is no reason not to attend at least once – maybe two or three times.

Performances are Saturday, April 3, at 2:00 and 7:00, Friday, April 9, at 7:00, Saturday, April 10, at 2:00 and 7:00, and Sunday, April 11, at 2:00.  All shows are at YAT’s Encore Theatre at 9620 Campo Road in Spring Valley.  Take the Kenwood exit off 94, then go north and turn left on Campo Rd.  The theatre is on your right side just after you turn, so don’t blink.
