On Saturday, November 7, Nutrition Zone celebrated its grand opening with a family-friendly extravaganza in the Vons center parking lot. Along with a climbing wall and inflatables, several of the Nutrition Zone supplement suppliers had tables with samples, and a number of local businesses also showed up. Owners Marty and Michelle Cullenward and their son and store manager, Ryan, put together a fun event for everyone who attended.
Nutrition Zone bills itself as a Weight Loss and Sports Nutrition Superstore, and health and nutrition were the focus of nearly all of the businesses that attended – from energy and strength supplements to weight loss to a fitness center. Walking in the store only enhances the impression of a company focused on nutrition.
Everyone who attended seemed to have a good time, and Nutrition Zone promises to be a positive addition to the business and overall communities. Nutrition Zone is located at 9625 Mission Gorge Road, in the Vons Center, right next to Domo Sushi. You can contact them at 619-449-2438.

A Big Welcome to Nutrition Zone of Santee
On Friday and Saturday, November 6 & 7, the Santee Firefighters and the San Diego Sheriff’s Deputies (Santee Substation) joined together to put on the annual Santee Pancake Breakfast supporting needy local families. As in the past, Fire Station 4 on Cottonwood Ave. was the site for the two-day gastronomic gathering. Deputies served up the food as firefighters flipped sausages on a nearby grill. Coffee was provided by the great folks at Coffee Brake, and several other local businesses helped sponsor the event.
I was not able to make the Friday fest, but Saturday was quite busy while I was there. I wish I could tell you how good the food was, but because of a grand opening the same morning I didn’t have time. But the people there certainly seemed to be enjoying their meals, and you know firefighters love their food. If you missed this year, you can wait until next November, or you can contact Barbara Wallace at the Santee Sheriff’s Station (619-956-4000) to find out how you can still help out families this year.

I want to thank everyone who has been looking in on the blog while I have been otherwise occupied. Recently I had to sell my house in Santee, and so the past few weeks I have been packing up, cleaning up, storing, and moving. I am now at the point of unpacking, but I will have a bit more time for writing and I hope to catch up on events that have been going on in Santee. These include the Nutrition Zone grand opening, a fundraiser at Philippi’s Pizza Grotto, and the monthly mixer at Cookies by Design. I do have pictures from the fundraiser up on my Facebook page, if you want to check out the fun.
If you like to pamper your pup or coddle your kitty, there is a new place to take your pet for grooming. Aloha Pet Grooming had its Grand Opening on Wednesday, November 4, at 4:44 pm (yes, it was planned that way). This was one of the best attended individual business grand openings I’ve been to, which I think bodes well for Aloha.
Melinda Tritsch and Freckles
Owner Melinda Tritsch has had a love affair with animals since childhood, and is completely in her element here. During the Grand Opening several of her clients dropped by to help celebrate. Her business neighbors also joined in on the festivities: Fox’s Pizza Den provided pizza for the celebration – including Hawaiian pizza to go with the Aloha theme – as well as putting up flags to help draw attention. Melinda explained that she came up with the name for her shop because she wanted something that gave a feeling of relaxation, and she couldn’t think of any place more relaxing than Hawaii. From what I could see, the pets who come to Aloha are in for some serious pampering.

This Tuesday, November 10, Filippi’s Pizza Grotto is holding a fund raiser to help a young lady who was seriously injured in an auto accident. Local on-air personality Clint August will host the evening and Simply Spa’s Thomas Hootman will back him up. The event runs from 6:00-9:00 pm, and a portion of the buffet dinner will be donated to Jordan and her family to help cover the cost of her treatment. Filippi’s is located at 10767 Woodside Ave., just east of N. Magnolia Ave.
